In a vacuum, I would normally agree that the likelihood of such a thing is low. However, Tim Tebow is not just some random Urban Meyer QB. He is literally THE Urban Meyer QB, and his upside is so much higher than Alex Smith's (he has actual arm strength, a massive frame, and the possibility of playing another position if he doesn't work out as a QB) that I think Singletary would be convinced it wo

it would work. Besides, NFL coaches are arrogant and he will think his staff can coach Tebow up better than Nolan's staff coached up Smith.

Joe Haden is a reach at the 8 spot and Gerald McCoy cannot be a NT in the 3-4 (Glenn Dorsey has the same problem in KC). Bruce Campbell or Bryan Bulaga are possible at 8, but I think the 49ers are more likely to head to free agency for a new RT than the draft. If Alex Smith continues to play well, I'll likely change the selection to Bryan Bulaga, which would really screw the Seahawks over down the

line. Nate Davis was a 5th round gamble who played ok at best in the preseason. The niners front office will draft Tebow if they feel they need a franchise QB now.
-10/25/2009 9:58:47 PM
Well, currently I have them going LB, OLB, CB with their first three picks (McClain, Norwood, and Alterraun Verner in the second round). I think that more than satisfies their major needs at the moment. If they can find a RT in free agency, the niners could be an elite team next year.

Midgetspar: Agreed, but when I finish updating the 2nd+3rd round he will have some wide receivers at his disposal. Zuriel: Dezmon Briscoe could go in the 2-4 round range. He actually looks like a similar prospect to Eric Decker, who could've snuck into the my first round if the stars had aligned in a certain way.
-11/14/2009 11:20:46 AM
Finally, I've updated all three rounds.
-11/21/2009 10:52:05 PM
Considering I've watched most of them, I'm curious: What makes you say that?
-12/1/2009 6:52:49 PM
The third round isn't currently updated, so that would be why it's THREE in a row. As for the first two, its because behind Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph, who I totally agree are probably the leagues top corner tandem, they have literally nothing. I mean sure, Morgan Trent is a rookie who will improve, but he's just not as talented as either Brandon Ghee or Patrick Robinson. You really need second

First, thanks to dholland327 and ChiefsFan634 for pointing out some factual errors in my mock. I've attempted to fix them, let me know if something else crops up.
det32, his upside is that he's ridiculously athletic, tall (6'2), and has number one receiver potential if he can learn to catch the ball and run pro-routes. That kind of upside is rare, so he'll be a mid second round pick at the late
-12/17/2009 4:21:17 PM
The Seahawks traded that pick to the Eagles.
-12/18/2009 9:36:04 AM
First and second rounds are updated. Third will come later this week.
-12/22/2009 11:42:32 AM
Incidentally, my order is based on what I think the final order will be, not the present order. I expect Detroit to win one more game, whereas I doubt Tampa will. Hence, Tampa picking before Detroit.
-12/23/2009 8:11:15 PM
You're telling me that Jeff Backus giving up 8+ sacks isn't cause for concern? No, Stafford's injuries aren't directly his fault, but that doesn't excuse his awful play in general. The idea that the Detroit front office actually thinks he's a competent tackle is startling and alarming. Yes, the guard play is weak for sure, but guards could be found in free-agency (Willie Colon, Chris Chester, and
-12/28/2009 3:37:45 PM
Nick Cole are all notable upcoming FAs), whereas there will be maybe one starting caliber LT on the market (Charlie Johnson). If the Lions don't upgrade their LT, Stafford will suffer from the same issues that plagued Joey Harrington, Marc Bulger, and David Carr; namely he won't be comfortable waiting in the pocket because he'll be getting sacked so much.
-12/28/2009 3:37:58 PM
Oh, and as far as the back to back CBs, the third round isn't updated yet.
-12/28/2009 3:43:22 PM
Actually, Backus has given up 8.25 sacks this season. See reference here: http://hosted.stats.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=5465&team=8
Nick Cole is an excellent guard, he's only a backup with the Eagles because Todd Herremans is one of the better guards in the NFL, and Max Jean-Gilles is as solid as they come. Chris Chester is in the same boat in Baltimore with guys like Ben Grubbs and Marshal Yan
-12/28/2009 6:42:46 PM
Yanda. Yes, the Lions need guard help, you're absolutely right. However, they need help everywhere on their o-line except maybe center and right guard. Backus is completely terrible, and having a good LT is the second most important thing behind having a good QB. The Lions will never be a consistently good team unless they get a blindside protector that's actually, you know, a protector.
-12/28/2009 6:44:58 PM
Plus, Backus could slide inside to LG anyway, simultaneously improving both positions. Getting an elite DT is obviously a good thing, but having an elite LT is more important given that they have an elite talent at QB but not nearly enough talent around him to let him play up to his potential.
-12/28/2009 6:46:46 PM
Every source out there has Backus at 8+ sacks. You're literally the only person refuting it, and having watched the Lions play multiple times (and seen a lot of tape on Backus getting destroyed repeatedly) I can safely say that you're deluding yourself. Backus sucks, and as I've said the LT position is far more important than the LG position.
-12/28/2009 9:17:27 PM
Right, because clearly you're the ultimate authority on this sort of thing. Meanwhile, does anyone else have any comments or suggestions? There are a lot of picks that seemed questionable to me, so get after them!
-12/29/2009 9:07:26 AM
Only the first round is updated, and I apologize if the order is slightly off; I didn't take a particularly in-depth look at the strength of schedule.
-1/3/2010 7:24:38 PM
The order and second round have been updated. I'll get the third round done at some point later this week.
-1/4/2010 11:54:13 AM
In general, I agree that 5 QBs is a lot for the first round, but need may just dictate that it happens. St. Louis, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Seattle, and potentially even teams like Denver and Minnesota need QBs for this upcoming season.
-1/6/2010 10:25:32 AM
Assuming that the Jags go with Tebow, which isn't a forgone conclusion by any stretch, and Ryan Mallet declares I'd be very surprised to see less than four QBs go in the first round. Tony Pike is the question mark to the Vikings, as it depends on whether or not they get assurances from Brett Favre that he'll be back for another year.
-1/6/2010 10:26:35 AM
McClain falls because he's not an elite athlete like Patrick Willis or Lawrence Timmons and he doesn't have nearly as much versatility as either of the aforementioned players.
The Colts run defense and penetration are mediocre at best. Adding Brian Price would help both.
-1/21/2010 3:26:49 PM
Also, 4thand18, this is not a mock about what I think the teams SHOULD do, it's about what I think they WILL do. I have another mock where I pick as if I were running each team, but it's not this one.
